Ontario Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont has announced 30 new appointments to the Order of Ontario for 2025, including Rogers’s Executive Chair Edward Rogers, sportscaster Don Cherry, former CityLine host Tracy Moore, and TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) CEO Cameron Bailey.
The Order of Ontario recognizes those whose distinguished service and extraordinary achievements have helped build a stronger Ontario and Canada.
According to Rogers’s citation, the executive chair of Rogers Communications, chair of the Toronto Blue Jays and chair of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment is being recognized for expanded nationwide connectivity, his championing of digital inclusion and advancing major innovation. “His philanthropic leadership in healthcare underscores a profound commitment to equity, opportunity and enduring social impact.”
Cherry, who was unceremoniously relieved of his duties on Hockey Night in Canada in late 2019, is also being recognized for “extensive philanthropy, supporting the military and police, youth sports and animal welfare through Don Cherry’s Pet Rescue Foundation. He founded Rose Cherry’s Home for Kids and is a strong advocate for organ donation.”
Moore is being celebrated for using her voice as a broadcaster to advance equity and inclusion issues and confront systemic racism, including co-creating award-winning Citytv special Ending Racism: What Will it Take? “Her leadership extends to community initiatives, exemplifying courage and integrity while driving meaningful social change across Canada,” her citation reads.
Bailey, meanwhile, is being credited with elevating TIFF “into a globally recognized cultural institution with an annual economic impact of $240 million. His vision champions diversity, inclusion and representation in film, earning international acclaim. A respected educator, writer and mentor, he advances pluralism in the arts, positioning Ontario as a leader in cultural innovation.”
The 2025 Order of Ontario appointees will be invested at a ceremony in Toronto later this year. Since it’s establishment in 1986, the Order has invested 933 individuals.
