CLINTON, ON – EastLink, the fifth-largest Canadian cable company, has agreed to purchase Southwestern Ontario cable operator Bluewater TV Cable/Ex-Cen Cablevision from the Stinson family, Cartt.ca has learned.
The purchase price is not known.
The company serves about 7,000 total customers along the southeastern shores of Lake Huron and is based in Clinton, about 100 kms northwest of Kitchener.
Bluewater has been one of the more progressive small operators in the country (actually, most of the independent operators still competing are pretty progressive) and offers digital cable, HDTV, phone, high speed Internet, and video on demand.
This system is the second one in the region purchased by EastLink’s parent, Bragg Communications. In 2007 it bought Amtelecom, a cable and phone company which serves a number of areas in southwestern Ontario, but do not abut any of the Bluewater or Ex-Cen territories.
E-mails to EastLink and Bluewater for confirmation or comment have yet to be returned.
