EastLink thanks local TV volunteers

HALIFAX – Pizza and TV have always gone together. So it’s apt that EastLink is thanking the volunteers who work on their community channel productions with pizza parties and lunches.

The cableco is honouring its volunteers at 13 stations in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island as part of National Volunteer Week celebrations.

“Our volunteers are pivotal to all of our productions. They provide essential support to our employees and it provides them with a great opportunity to learn more about the television and broadcasting industry,” said Michael Smith, Director of EastLink Television. “We think it is important to take time to say thanks and let them know the contribution they make to community programming in the Maritimes.”

Throughout its community channels, 120 volunteers provide more than 5,500 hours of work to EastLink. That number swells to 900 helpers when you count the volunteers who help with telethon fundraisers.

EastLink recently sponsored the Nova Scotia Provincial Volunteer Awards where more than 65 Nova Scotians where honoured for their contribution to communities. EastLink Television will air the awards ceremony on May 8 at 8 p.m. on the channels throughout its territory.
