HALIFAX – Over 30 wireless Internet access points are currently operational in downtown Halifax as EastLink has begun trialing WiFi technology in various locations within the peninsula of Halifax.
EastLink’s service covers large areas of the downtown of Halifax primarily in the Spring Garden Road area. Within these areas, users can access the Internet and retrieve email from any location within the WiFi zone.
“WiFi is an important project allowing us to test new technology, which will be a great tool for attracting businesses to the area or the thousands of tourists who frequent the city and wish to stay connected,” said Lee Bragg, EastLink’s co-CEO, in a release. “While we trial the WiFi service, we are continuing to consider options to enhance and expand the range of services we provide to residential and business customers.”
During this trial period, EastLink is offering customers free access to its new WiFi zone and in exchange is looking for feedback from its users. WiFi users are asked to provide comments about their experience using the service.
The trial, which is open to everyone, allows users to access the Internet from a wireless device like a laptop or personal digital assistants (PDA). A service area map and more information on the trial can be found by logging on to wifi.eastlink.ca.
