EastLink swings back with 10 Mbps stick

HALIFAX – A day after eastern telco Aliant announced IP-delivered digital TV, MSO EastLink announced today it is introducing a 10 Megabit per second (Mbps) Internet service to all of its bundle customers.

EastLink is the first Maritime provider to launch the 10 Mbps Internet speed across all its service areas, says the release. The company was also the first to launch local telephone over a cable network in Canada and one of the first in North America.

"Our new service is twice as fast as our highly popular five megabits per second service, giving customers’ greater download power, convenience and value for their dollar," said Dan McKeen, co-CEO, EastLink, in the release.

"With access to the limitless educational and leisure opportunities on the Internet, our customers can harness the power of the Internet to work, surf and play twice as fast, enhancing their overall on-line experience. It’s really about our customers getting more from their bundle and providing ever increasing value for our customers," he added.

EastLink bundled customers will automatically receive the 10 Mbps Internet service by June 25. A stand-alone 10 Megabit per second high speed product will available at $54.95 per month.

"EastLink now offers a 5 Mbps and a 10 Mbps high speed Internet service which compares favourably to our competitors who offer a 1.5Mbps and a 3Mbps service in most of their service areas," added McKeen.

Earlier this month, EastLink introduced a 10Mbps Internet service in select business packages.
