HALIFAX – Eastlink has overhauled its home security and automation service, reintroducing the service Tuesday as “Winston”.
Winston allows customers to monitor and control door locks, lights, thermostats, garage doors, smoke, fire, CO, flood detection, and unlawful entry with packages that start at $9.95 per month in a bundle with other Eastlink services.
The newly re-engineered service includes full smartphone capability, including updates and photos sent automatically to a mobile device, plus advanced services like Geofencing that, for example, allows a customer to issue unique access codes to anyone needing to enter the home on a day-to-day basis, plus set the times of the day that the codes are active.
"Geofencing sounds complicated but it's really quite simple," said Jason Brunt, Eastlink's director of home automation, in the news release. "For example, if you've programmed your home's personal settings to activate at 6:00 p.m. and you happen to be headed home earlier than that, Winston detects when you are a certain distance away and begins preparing for your arrival by adjusting things like the thermostat and turning on the outdoor lights."
CEO Lee Bragg added that the company has “learned a lot” since its initial foray into home security and automation a few years ago.
"Customers have been clear about what they want – and they want simple and accessible", he added.
