HALIFAX – Residents and businesses in Port Hawkesbury can now get their phone service from cable company EastLink, if they wish.
The company invested over $1.5 million to upgrade its network in the community at the southern end of Cape Breton Island, which included the construction of a headend facility that will serve as a network transmission point and technical office for the area. Port Hawkesbury has about 4,000 residents.
“Customers in Port Hawkesbury wanted to have a choice in telephone service providers and we are pleased to provide them with an affordable and reliable option,” said Ian Lezama, EastLink’s director of marketing, in a release. “Now business and residential customers will have access to the full suite of EastLink services.”
EastLink purchased the Port Hawkesbury cable system in August 2007 when it bought RuSh Communications.
