HALIFAX – Eastlink announced Thursday the launch of mobile services in the Acadian Peninsula in New Brunswick.
The expansion is part of the company’s existing investments into its mobile wireless infrastructure and follows the network’s expansion into Miramichi and Bathurst. The company has invested more than $255 million in the past five years and over $55 million in the last year.
“We’re laser focused on the continued growth of our mobile service,” said CEO Jeff Gillham in a press release. “We’ve invested heavily and consistently since we launched 10 years ago and are committed to continue that investment.”
The company has also said it is adding more towers and small cell installations in Nova Scotia’s Halifax, Hammons Plains, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Liverpool, Bear River and New Ross; in New Brunswick’s Moncton; in Cape Breton’s Sydney and Marion Bridge; in Charlottetown in Price Edward Island, and in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
The company also said it has improved its backup system capacity for storm preparation, adding 25 fixed generators at key sites, “which not only reduces downtime for those sites but also facilitates improved ability to reach other sites with our fleet of portable generators, which we have grown as well,” said Steve Irvine, CTO and senior vice president of engineering, in the release.
“This is a journey of continuous improvement due to the increase in frequency and impact of climate-related events,” he added.
