MARKDALE – Eastlink announced this week the purchase of Markdale Communications, located in the village of Markdale, Ont.

The company provides TV and broadband to about 1,500 customers in the Markdale, Flesherton, southern Beaver Valley region in Ontario. It was owned by tech supplier Capella Telecommunications. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Markdale Communications has strong history of serving its customers well since 1980 with a similar philosophy and approach to the customer experience as Eastlink,” says Lee Bragg, CEO Eastlink, in a press release. “Adding Markdale to the Eastlink family further strengthens our commitment to this region. Eastlink owns several other small cable systems in the area.

Eastlink has invested over $75 million in the towns it serves in Southwestern Ontario over the last 10 years, bringing state-of-the-art high speed Internet services (speeds up to 400 Mbps/1 GB), HDTV (hundreds of HD channels), TV Channel Exchange, Eastlink Stream, OnDemand content, Maestro DVR, and home phone service to towns like Hanover, Listowel and now Markdale to name just a few, adds the release.

“This industry is undergoing a period of rapid change requiring significant amounts of capital investment to leverage growth opportunities,” said Wayne Rabey president, Markdale Communications and Capella. “Given Eastlink’s proven track record in Southwestern Ontario, its financial resources and its strong operational history, I am confident that they are the right people to drive the long-term success of our company. This will be especially important as the area begins a period of substantial growth. Having known and worked with Eastlink for over 20 years, their approach will serve the system and its subscribers well.  ”
