Early bird registration for Banff drawing to a close

There are only two more weeks to take advantage of the ‘early bird’ registration rate for the Banff World Television Festival running June 7-10, 2009 at the Fairmont Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta.

Two new panels have just been announced. The first looks at Movies of the Week and Miniseries which are once again gaining in popularity. Tom Zappala, senior vice president of acquisition and scheduling for ABC Family; Liz Wise director of original movies for Lifetime; Barbara Fisher, senior vice president of original programming for Hallmark; and Karen O’Hara, director of original movies for SciFi will discuss where the opportunities are and who’s looking to buy.

The second panel will feature Jon Rutherford, director of sales and acquisitions for Portfolio Entertainment; Allan Novak vice president of factual and reality for Temple Street Productions; David Paperny, president of Paperny Films; and David Baldwin, executive vice president of program planning for HBO to outline how the economic downturn has provided unexpected opportunities, and how some production companies have found ways to not only survive but to thrive.
