MARKHAM – Free, sponsored golf lessons are now available on demand through Rogers Digital Cable.
Capital Networks, Markham, Ont., produced the golf lessons that will be available to approximately one million Rogers customers with a digital box. Each of the 24 episodes is sponsored by Chrysler Canada and was shot at The Club at Bond Head, just north of Toronto.
The series host is Nigel Hollidge, director of golf operations at The Club at Bond Head. Hollidge works with Canadian PGA touring professional Ian Leggatt and Matt McQuillan, an up and coming touring pro, in the various video segments.
"This is an exciting new venture for us," said Capital Networks president Bil Trainor. "We believe that viewers will decide with their remote control if this type of content is useful to them, as they can simply order it on demand. We think it will be quite popular, but it hasn’t been done before so only time will tell.
"I know I certainly need help with my golf game. If this works we have many more projects in development that we hope to bring to market," added Trainor.
As for Chrysler, the sponsor, it will be able to accurately gauge how many viewers its message reaches. “For the first time an advertiser will know exactly how many people ordered an episode and saw their commercial," explained Trainor. "The viewer orders what they want when they want to watch. Call it accountable media as the sponsor only pays for episodes ordered."
Golf lessons on demand will be available at no charge, until December 31st, to Rogers digital cable customers by tuning to Rogers On Demand, Channel 100. There is also a companion website, www.golfondemand.ca where you can print out a special $25 coupon towards a round of golf.
