MONCTON – Canadians have used their cell phones to donate more than $92,000 to support the families of the RCMP Officers killed in last week’s tragedy in Moncton.
As Cartt.ca reported, the text-to-donate initiative is a partnership between Mobile Giving Foundation Canada (MGFC), the Rotary Club of Moncton and the RCMP Foundation. The program will remain in place until at least the end of July, so Canadians may continue to pledge their support by texting the keyword MONCTON to the shortcode 45678 to make a $20 donation. The donation will appear on the customer’s monthly wireless bill, and 100% of the donation will go directly to the Moncton Fallen RCMP Members Fund.
“Canadians have shown once again how eager they are to support each other during a time of crisis in our communities,” said Bernard Lord, president of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) and chair of MGFC, in the announcement. “Our thoughts remain with the impacted families as they begin their difficult journey ahead.”
