BURBANK, Calif. – The Walt Disney Company announced yesterday its third quarter results, which show the number of paid Disney+ subscribers hit 116 million as of July 3, 2021.
This represents just over a 100% increase from the 57.5 million paid subscribers recorded on June 27, 2020.
“Our direct-to-consumer business is performing very well,” said Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, in a press release. The company reported “nearly 174 million subscriptions across Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu at the end of the quarter, and a host of new content coming to the platforms,” he said.
Disney+ is continuing to expand, including launching in new markets. Since April 2020, Disney has launched Disney+ Hotstar in India, Indonesia, Malasia and Thailand. Subscribers for Disney+ Hotstar are included in the total number of Disney+ subscribers, although the “average monthly revenue per paid subscriber is significantly lower than the average monthly revenue per paid subscriber for Disney+ in other markets,” according to the press release.
