Dish Network’s subscription streaming movie service launches this week

ENGLEWOOD, CO – Dish Network’s new subscription streaming movie service will launch next weekend with an impressive inventory of movies, TV shows and games available on the TV or PC.

Starting at $10 per month, Blockbuster Movie Pass will offer more than 100,000 DVD movies, TV shows and games for the Xbox, Playstation and Wii available by mail; more than 3,000 movie titles that can be streamed to the TV or more than 4,000 movies that can be streamed to the PC; plus 20 premium entertainment movie channels from studios like MGM, Epix, Sony Movie Channel, and PixL.

“With millions of Internet-enabled Dish Network set-top boxes deployed in U.S. homes and our ability to offer services from the iconic Blockbuster brand, we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the myriad of ways consumers seek access to their favourite movies, TV shows or games,” said CEO Joe Clayton, in the announcement. “When you combine Blockbuster Movie Pass with a Dish Network subscription, you get endless entertainment options and convenient access to the content you want, when you want it. And unlike other companies, we offer the simplicity of one company, one bill and one connection.”

For the first four months, new Dish Network customers will have Blockbuster Movie Pass included with their subscription for one year when they subscribe to the ‘America’s Top 200’ programming package or greater and commit to 24 months of Dish Network service. Blockbuster Movie Pass is also included free for three months for new Dish customers who subscribe to ‘America’s Top 120’ programming package.  Access to the subscription streaming movie service requires a Dish HD DVR.

Still no word at this time on a potential Canadian launch of the service.
