VANCOUVER – The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is undertaking an anti-harassment audit of workplace policies and practices.
The audit will be led by Daina Green who is recognized internationally as a member of the United Nations Development Programme Roster of Experts in Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Public Administration. She has led her own independent practice since 1990 as an advisor to unions, governments, and non-profit organizations in anti-harassment, anti-discrimination, pay equity and employment equity.
The Guild has also engaged Emma Phillips of Goldblatt Partners, LLP to provide advice on discrimination and harassment law. Phillips has previously served as counsel on external reviews into sexual misconduct by the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and an independent review panel appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to investigate sexual exploitation and abuse by peacekeepers.
“This audit is Guild’s next major step in our efforts to confront sexual harassment and harassment in all its forms,” said DGC’s national lead on safe and respectful workplaces Kendrie Upton, in the news release. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, but now is the time for change, the time to take on the corrosive culture of ‘turning a blind-eye’ that’s allowed bullying and harassment to persist for so long.”
