HALIFAX – Teletubbies will make their debut in South Korea this spring after DHX Media’s dedicated brand management and consumer products arm signed its first broadcast and consumer products deals in the country.
The two deals build on DHX Brands' strategy to expand the Teletubbies brand throughout Asia and to capitalize on the significant potential for consumer products in the territory, the company said.
The new preschooler series has been picked up by South Korea's public broadcaster KBS, while SMG Holdings/Joon International has been named licensing agent for Teletubbies in South Korea and is expected to begin rolling out a consumer products program in the territory later this year.
"Our Asian rollout of the new Teletubbies series is off to a tremendous start," said DHX Media’s EVP of content and distribution Josh Scherba, in the news release. "We've seen strong viewer response in China so far and we're really excited now to expand this delightful evergreen property into South Korea for preschoolers and families to enjoy. As the leading public broadcaster in South Korea, KBS is the perfect platform for Teletubbies."
