HALIFAX – Children's entertainment company DHX Media has revealed the first look image of the brand new Teletubbies ahead of the show’s hotly anticipated return to UK television screens.
The multiple award-winning children’s TV show has been updated for a modern audience and will return to BBC’s CBeebies later this year, with an international rollout in 2016. Characters Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po have retained their loveable, huggable distinctive features but have been fitted with “Touch Screen Tummies” that will broadcast live action films, shot from a child’s perspective.
“We’re thrilled to be introducing the much-loved British institution, Teletubbies, to a whole new generation of children across the world”, said DHX Media VP global brand management Victoria Bushell, in the news release. “Our intention is to maintain the integrity of the original series, but at the same time to push the boundaries of modern technologies to ensure that the Teletubbies live on in the 21st century.”
DHX Media acquired the series in 2013 as part of its buy of Ragdoll Worldwide Ltd. Teletubbies launched in March 1997 and became one of the most successful global children's brands of all time, with the original episodes having aired in over 120 territories in 45 different languages, reaching over 1 billion children.
In other company news, DHX Media announced that its full-service international licensing agency, Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG), has expanded operations into the Middle East, Turkey and Greece, with offices planned in Dubai and Athens.
To facilitate the expansion, CPLG is amalgamating with two existing businesses, FWD Licensing and License2Brand, to form CPLG MENA (Middle East, North Africa) and CPLG Turkey & Greece, respectively.
