Devices have a key role in growing mobile broadband: In-Stat

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Advances in 3G and WiMAX will play a major role in the type of services customers will see in the future, according to a report by research firm In-Stat. “Two of the biggest device trends in the cellular industry are dual-mode cellular/Wi-Fi phones and femtocells,” said In-Stat analyst Daryl Schoolar. “This trend can change how operators sell both voice and data services.” The report, entitled Impact of Devices on a Mobile Broadband Universe, notes that femtocells will create new service opportunities for carriers that will help them win new subscribers.
