MONTREAL — Having resigned as programming director at Quebec’s public TV channel, Télé-Québec, a month ago, Denis Dubois has now been appointed as the new vice-president of original content at Quebecor Content, effective November 25.
Dubois will be responsible for the selection and development of all original programs for all of Quebecor’s platforms, including TVA Network, specialty channels and Club illico, as well as for their digital platforms.
In a news release issued Tuesday, France Lauzière, president and CEO of TVA Group and head of content at Quebecor Content, announced Dubois’ appointment, saying (translated from French): “Denis Dubois’ impressive track record proves that he is the ideal person to give this new impetus to support the increase in investments and the volume of projects to come. We are excited to welcome Denis back to us again.”
Dubois is returning to Quebecor, after serving as director of programs for Télé-Québec for four and a half years. Previously, Dubois contributed to the positioning and promotion of TVA Group’s specialty channels from 2008 to 2013. Dubois has made his mark in the Quebec television industry for more than 30 years. Throughout his career, he has held strategic roles in various media and has led many successful TV shows, the Quebecor news release said.
To respond to the increase in the volume of original content for the company, Quebecor Content announced it is also changing its structure by adding, under the supervision of Dubois, two groups that will bring together different types of content. Announcements to that effect will follow in the coming weeks, Quebecor said.
“I’m happy to be back in the band in a whole new role, in a whole new mandate,” Dubois said in an English translation of the news release. “In the context of the major investments announced by Quebecor Content, having the privilege of finding such a powerful team to build a promising vision for the future, makes me particularly proud. I enthusiastically embrace these exceptional challenges that are proposed to me to create and develop the best original content, to establish a strategy for all platforms and to oversee a talented team.”
Dubois will also work with Yann Paquet, vice-president of strategy and international affairs for Quebecor Content, who will continue to grow content distribution in global markets while retaining the other mandates under his responsibility.
“Thanks to the expertise of Denis Dubois and Yann Paquet, Quebecor Content is reaffirming its leadership in the creation and exploitation of content in a rapidly changing industry and continues to grow on the international scene,” Lauzière concluded.
