BDUS likely to field many calls this week from customers seeking soccer

TORONTO – As the 2019-20 football (European- and U.S.-style) seasons get under way, streamer DAZN has launched a new Canadian ad campaign calling itself “The New Home of Football” in Canada.

The fully national campaign highlights how fans can stream every game and every match all season long on DAZN.

Through DAZN, Canadians can see every single live National Football League (NFL) game through NFL Game Pass including pre-season, regular season and post-season (including the Super Bowl), plus exclusive access to NFL RedZone. Weekend NFL broadcast games remain available on TV as they have always been.

However, DAZN is now the only place to exclusively watch every single English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Europa League matches. With the new EPL season kicking off Friday, August 9, we wonder how many calls Canadian cable, satellite and IPTV companies will have to field when unaware (possibly angry) soccer fans realize EPL is no longer available on TSN or Sportsnet.

This would seem likely to cause a dip in subscribers to those sports channels and to BDUs generally.

Sportsnet will be replacing EPL with German Bundesliga games while TSN will have no Euro soccer in its weekend morning schedules.

DAZN is also the home of every Serie A game out of Italy, other major domestic European soccer league matches, and hundreds of Major League Soccer games. DAZN does not have an exclusive on Serie A however as some of those games will continue to air in Canada on TLN and RAI.

The DAZN campaign includes the largest ever takeover of Toronto’s Union Station by a single brand since the completion of the new renovations, and began Monday, July 29, says the company. Over 300 unique pieces of static and digital creative have replaced the everyday wallpaper seen by Union’s 300,000 daily visitors. This takeover will continue to dominate Canada’s largest and busiest transportation hub through Sept. 22, says the DAZN press release.

A campaign extension featuring athlete spokespeople, a premium fan giveaway component that further brings The New Home of Football concept to life, and an interactive pop-up space within Union Station will also be announced soon.

Canadians can of course watch DAZN anywhere on any device, including smart TVs, PCs, mobile phones, tablets and game consoles for just $20 per month or $150 per year.
