TORONTO – DAZN will kick off its coverage of English Premier League soccer in August after confirming Wednesday that it has locked down the Canadian broadcast rights to the EPL for the next three seasons.
The sports streamer said that all 380 Premier League soccer matches of the 2019-2020 season will be available live and in HD.
This will leave huge holes in weekend programming schedules, especially for both Rogers' Sportsnet and Bell Media's TSN, which have shared the rights to the most popular professional soccer league in the world for years. The lengthy season stretches from August to May, and by our tally, accounts for well over 200 hours of programming per year for the two sports channels.
While TSN has not yet responded to a request for comment, a Sportsnet spokerperson told Cartt.ca: "Sportsnet is committed to delivering world-class Premier League coverage through to the end of this season. Moving forward, we will evaluate our programming options to ensure we are delivering the content that matters most to our audiences."
DAZN is already the exclusive rights holder for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in Canada, plus offers England’s Carabao Cup and some MLS content.
The service is priced at $20 per month or $150 annually, which includes one month free. Click here for more.
