No word on Disney+

TORONTO – Rogers chief financial officer Tony Staffieri told financial analysts on Wednesday morning’s conference call to discuss the company’s third quarter results more apps are on the way for Rogers Ignite TV customers.

While the platform, which already carries Netflix, YouTube and as of this week Sportsnet Now to their customers’ televisions (and are integrated with the voice-powered remote too), Staffieri said DAZN and Amazon Prime Video are about to be added.

When asked about the cable division’s capital expenditures he said, “we continue to ingest some new apps including Amazon, our Sportsnet Now app, as well as DAZN, to name a few.”

He didn’t mention the next big video OTT app coming November 12, Disney+, and what Rogers may or may not do with the soon-to-be new home for everything Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm – and a company spokesperson declined to say if or when it would be added alongside the others (we think it’s a when, not an if) on Ignite TV.

However, U.S. carrier Verizon has already decided it will use the new service to lure new customers, or entice existing ones to upgrade, announcing this week it will offer Disney+ free for a year to its unlimited data Internet customers, whether they are mobile wireless or home Fios broadband customers.
