TORONTO – Mark Dailey and Ross Kentner will be honoured with 2011 RTNDA Lifetime Achievement Awards in the Central Region, the Association of Electronic Journalists announced Wednesday.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was created in 2002 to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service and continued excellence during the course of their career in broadcast journalism.
Dailey is often described as more than just ‘the voice’ of Toronto’s Citytv – he was the voice of the city itself. After more than 30 years at Citytv, the beloved anchor, reporter and booth announcer lost his battle with recurring cancer last December at the age of 57. Over the years he became a local icon delivering the news with dry, witty and offbeat humour. His public battle with prostate cancer in 2004 turned him into an advocate for men’s health.
Kentner began his career in radio as an operator before moving into the newsroom, eventually becoming news director and later general manager in 1985. As Bayshore Broadcasting expanded under his direction, news has always been front and centre in all new stations, and the News Centre remains the voice of Grey Bruce.
The awards will be presented at the RTNDA Central Regional Awards Banquet in Waterloo on May 7, 2011.
