GENEVA – Attendees at this year’s ITU Telecom World conference had a first hand look at the world’s most advanced system against global cyberattacks.
With cybersecurity a key theme at this year’s event, the International Multilateral Partnership against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) demonstrated the inner workings of its new global response centre, which was set up in Malaysia earlier this year to proactively track and defend against cyberthreats.
The centre’s alert and response capabilities including an early warning system that enables IMPACT members to identify and head-off potential and imminent attacks before they can inflict damage on national networks. The centre also offers a framework for countries to collaborate and work towards global ‘cyberpeace’.
“Every country is now critically dependent on technology for commerce, finance, healthcare, emergency services, food distribution and more”, said ITU secretary-general Dr. Hamadoun Touré, in a statement. “Loss of vital networks would quickly cripple any nation – and none is immune to cyberattack."
As an international alliance, IMPACT is positioned as a politically neutral platform to bring together governments, industry leaders and cybersecurity experts to enhance the global community’s capacity to prevent, defend and respond to cyberthreats.
