Culinary competitions fill up Food Network Canada’s spring season

TORONTO — Corus’ Food Network Canada announced today its spring lineup of programming will include several competition series highlighting incredible culinary talent and junior chefs across North America.

On April 6 at 9 p.m., The Big Bake (7 episodes x 60 minutes) will return. The Corus Studios original baking competition series (pictured above, right) features host Brad Smith, and judges Eddie Jackson, Harry (Harriet) Eastwood and new addition Ron Ben-Israel. Each episode gives three professional baking teams five hours to design, bake and decorate a grand-scale cake creation based on a particular theme. In the end, the most ambitious and delicious cake will take home the $10,000 prize.

Beginning April 25 at 9 p.m., Junior Chef Showdown Season 2 (above left, 8 x 60 minutes) features the judging panel of Anna Olson, Jordan Andino and Lynn Crawford. Each episode of the series showcases extraordinary young cooks between the ages of nine and 12 who are mentored and judged on each challenge and dish they create. At the end of the competition, one talented young chef will win the title of Junior Chef Showdown champion and a $25,000 cash prize.

Food Network Canada’s spring lineup will also include the season premieres of Top Chef (14 x 60 minutes) on April 1 at 10 p.m., and Fire Masters (15 x 60 minutes) on April 15 at 11 p.m.

In addition, a brand-new series, Chef Boot Camp (6 x 60 minutes), will debut on April 15 at 9 p.m. In the series, host Cliff Crooks uses his decades of expertise as culinary director of a global restaurant brand to help struggling chefs from restaurants across the country. Each episode, Crooks puts a trio of underperforming chefs through a gruelling series of challenges to test their real-world culinary skills.
