CTV’s Transplant begins production on season two

TORONTO — The second season of CTV’s acclaimed hospital drama Transplant has started production, with filming taking place in Montreal, Bell Media announced today.

Produced in association with NBCUniversal International Studios and Sphere Media, the 13-episode second season doesn’t have a scheduled release date on CTV yet but Bell Media says it will also air on Noovo in a translated French version.

Season two continues the story of Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed (played by Hamza Haz, pictured above in centre), a talented doctor and Syrian refugee who fled to Canada with his younger sister, and earned a second chance to practise emergency medicine at the fictional York Memorial Hospital in Toronto.

According to Numeris data for the 2019-20 broadcast season (September 2019 to May 2020), the first season of the series saw Transplant became the most-watched Canadian series among total viewers, with an average audience of 1.4 million, says Bell Media’s press release. The first season’s finale was watched by 1.7 million Canadians, according to the release.

“Transplant quickly became an incredible success story for CTV, as viewers across the country and around the world connected with the storylines and characters we created,” said Karine Moses, senior vice-president, content development and news, Bell Media, in a press release. “Together with our production partners NBCUniversal International Studios and Sphere Media, we look forward to working with our exceptional cast and crew to deliver another unforgettable season.”
