TORONTO – CTV’s veteran sports and weather anchor Jeff Hutcheson said Friday that he will wrap up 40 years in broadcasting, including 18 years at Canada AM, early this summer.

Hutcheson (pictured) began his career in 1976 at CKCO-TV in Kitchener, ON, presently known as CTV Kitchener. After working there for 20 years, he began working part-time for Canada AM in 1992, moving to the show in a permanent capacity in August 1998.

Dubbed Canada’s king of the remote broadcast, Hutcheson has broadcast from nearly 400 locations across Canada and around the world, including France, England, Ireland, and Australia.  He will embark on one last remote tour of Canada beginning May 11 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, before heading eastward to Quidi Vidi, NL, a beach in his home province of Prince Edward Island, and from Lunenburg, NS.

“We are so thankful for Jeff’s enormous contribution to Canada AM and we will miss him greatly,” said Bell Media production VP Nanci MacLean, in the news release. “His curiosity, honesty, and joyful spirit lights up the set every morning, as well as the homes of viewers across the country who welcome him with open arms. He reminds Canadians there’s a wonderful and fascinating country outside our doorstep and for that we will always be grateful. Jeff’s warmth and kindness touched the entire nation and leaves an indelible mark on the show.”

“I feel truly honoured to have had this incredible journey and to be welcomed into viewers’ homes everyday across my four decades of broadcasting,” added Hutcheson. “Canada AM has given me the experience of a lifetime, working on a team that sets the bar of professionalism and journalism in this industry. Having the opportunity to work and travel around the world has been extraordinary, and I am thrilled that I will have the chance to leave the viewers with one last remote tour, doing what I love the most – showing Canada to Canadians.”
