TORONTO – CTV aims to get funnier come Fall after scoring four new comedies among the raft of new series that it picked up at this year’s Los Angeles Screenings.
The broadcaster said Tuesday that its new comedy acquisitions include:
Young Sheldon (pictured), which takes viewers back to the beginning as it follows The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper at age nine, as he figures out almost anything but his football-loving, churchgoing, small-town Texan family;
Me, Myself & I, a single-camera comedy starring SNL’s Bobby Moynihan that examines one man’s life over a 50-year span;
Roseanne, the Conners family of the fictional town of Lanford, IL return in eight-episode reboot of the original series with the original cast, including Roseanne Barr and John Goodman; and
The Mayor, which sees an outspoken, idealistic rapper run for office as a publicity stunt and actually get elected, and then surprise everyone (including himself) when he has a natural knack for the job.
Drama acquisitions include a yet untitled Grey’s Anatomy spinoff set in a Seattle firehouse; legal thriller For The People; hospital drama The Good Doctor; mystery-thriller Ten Days In The Valley; timely and epic allegory The Crossing; a crime-solving magician in Deception; angelic-themed fantasy dramedy The Gospel Of Kevin; and two new family-focused dramas from the Marvel universe, including Marvel’s Inhumans and The Gifted.
CTV and CTV Two’s 2017/18 primetime schedules will be unveiled at the CTVUpfront on Wednesday, June 7 in Toronto.
“CTV’s strategically curated mix of the year’s most-buzzed about sitcoms and compelling dramas sets the stage for viewers to root for both heroes, families and even misfits with heart,” said Mike Cosentino, Bell Media’s SVP content and programming, in the news release. “We can’t wait to share our powerful new slate with advertisers and viewers next week.”
