TORONTO – At the last of the big networks’ “upfront” presentations this week, CTV unveiled a fall broadcast schedule Thursday that’s heavy on returning highly-rated hit shows and light on new additions.
“Consistent” was the key word the network used to describe its fall lineup, which is anchored by the country’s number one-rated comedy, drama, reality series, new series and newscast of the year. CTV says it has “strategically” selected just four new big-buzz dramas, two new comedies, and one new unscripted series to add to its primetime schedule this fall. “Year-after-year, CTV offers programming consistency and durability not found anywhere else,” said CTV president of programming and sports Phil King in a release. “It’s tough to crack the CTV lineup, but when programs do, they have the best chance of success on CTV.”
The new fall schedule features 17.5 hours of simulcast programming weekly, as well as new programming every weeknight. CTV’s new fall shows include: Bethenny Frankel’s new talk show Bethenny, The Goldbergs, Person of Interest (not a new series but new to CTV), Hostages, Junior Masterchef, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Played, CTV's new Canadian talk show The Social, The Tomorrow People, and Trophy Wife.
New shows debuting mid-season include: Believe, Intelligence, Kirstie, Masterchef Canada, Mixology, Spun Out, and Surviving Jack.
CTV also announced Thursday it is moving several mass-audience programs to CTV Two this fall to create a new, complementary schedule for its companion network.
CTV Two will now focus on unscripted and comedy programming, with shows including Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, The X Factor, American Idol, and Undercover Boss moving over to its schedule from CTV. In addition, CTV has acquired syndication rights for comedies Mike & Molly and Hot in Cleveland, and will also air an additional strip of The Big Bang Theory episodes on CTV Two.
Additional comedies on CTV Two include Anger Management and new CTV Original comedy Satisfaction.
CTV also announced Thursday that its entire new lineup will be available on the network’s new TV Everywhere platform CTV GO, scheduled to debut this fall.
