CTV sends five news teams to the Middle East

TORONTO – CTV News has sent five news teams to four countries the Middle East to cover the growing crisis, giving them more reporters than any other broadcaster, the network says.

Middle East Bureau Chief Janis Mackey Frayer is leading CTV’s coverage reporting from Beirut, Lebanon. Ellen Pinchuk is stationed in Mersin, Turkey; Murray Oliver is reporting from Jerusalem, Israel; and Denelle Balfour is reporting from Larnaca, Cyprus. For CTV Newsnet, anchor Dan Matheson is now reporting from Cyprus and on the evacuation of Canadians from Lebanon.

"This is a major crisis that could result in tremendous repercussions that will be felt around the world," said Robert Hurst, President of CTV News. "As the news breaks, we wanted a first-class team of foreign correspondents on the ground providing Canadians with the all-important context and analysis."

Reports are available on several platforms, including the main CTV network (Canada AM, local news stations, and CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson), online at www.ctv.ca, and on mobile via CTV’s Mobile Video News Service. The Web site posts breaking news and features a photo gallery, an interactive map, and an email report from the only Canadian soldier serving as an observer to the UN mission in southern Lebanon.
