Bell Media’s CTV announced Monday it has ordered 16 new episodes of Canadian Screen Award-nominated comedy series Children Ruin Everything from Toronto-based production company New Metric Media.
Production on the 16 half-hour episodes began Monday in Toronto and Hamilton, with part one of season four set to air as part of CTV’s 2024/25 broadcast season, according to a Bell Media press release.
Created by Emmy Award-winner Kurt Smeaton (Schitt’s Creek), Children Ruin Everything follows parents Astrid (Meaghan Rath, Being Human, Hawaii Five-0) and James (Aaron Abrams, Blindspot, Hannibal) as they struggle to hold onto their pre-kid life while raising their three children — tween Felix, seven-year-old Viv and toddler Morris.
In addition to Rath and Abrams, cast members returning in the fourth season include Logan Nicholson (Felix), Mikayla SwamiNathan (Viv), Ennis Esmer (Ennis), Nazneen Contractor (Dawn), Dmitry Chepovetsky (Bo), Veena Sood (Nisha) and Lisa Codrington (Marla).
“The fun and fumbles of raising kids continues for Astrid (Rath), who now faces the pressure of being the sold bread winner, and James (Abrams), who struggles with his new role of stay-at-home dad,” reads a description in the press release. “The complications of work and child-rearing may pull Astrid and James in different directions but they always end up on the same page — even if that page is dog-eared and stained with jam.”
The second season of Children Ruin Everything garnered seven nominations for the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards, including back-to-back nominations for Rath (best lead performer, comedy) and Esmer (best supporting performer, comedy). Esmer won the award in 2023. The series also leads the nominees for the 2024 Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards this month.
The first three seasons of Children Ruin Everything are currently available to stream on CTV.ca, the CTV app and Crave. The first two seasons are also available on Netflix in Canada, the U.K., and German-speaking territories, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg. In the U.S., Children Ruin Everything airs on The CW.
Bell Media Distribution is the international rights holder for Children Ruin Everything, and New Metric Media is the series’ exclusive international sales agent.
