CTV Montreal promotes from within

MONTREAL – With the retirement of long-time anchor Bill Haugland, CTV Montreal announced today that noon host Brian Britt will take over as the new co-anchor for the station’s flagship newscast at 6 p.m.

Reporter/anchor Todd van der Heyden will replace Britt as the co-anchor of the noon newscast. Mutsumi Takahashi will continue to co-anchor both the noon and 6 p.m. newscast – the top ranked English speaking newscasts in their timeslots, says the company.

The appointments follow an announcement made earlier this week that celebrated CTV Montreal anchor Bill Haugland will retire at the end of November.

"It was an obvious decision for us to have Brian (right) join Mutsumi on our 6 p.m. newscast," said Don Bastien, senior vice-president and general manager, CTV Montreal. "It will be a seamless transition with an established team like Brian and Mutsumi leading the most recognizable and experienced newscast in the city.

"We are also thrilled to move Todd to our noon newscast. He is one of Canada’s top young journalists whose investigative reports have endeared him to Montrealers."

Britt is a familiar face on the Montreal news scene and has been reporting and anchoring for CTV Montreal, formerly CFCF, since the late ’70s. Britt has covered federal, provincial and municipal elections, the 1990 Oka Crisis and the 1998 Ice Storm.

Van der Heyden (left) is an award-winning investigative journalist and anchor who has led CTV Montreal reports on 9/11, the Summit of Americas riots in Quebec City and hundreds of On Your Side reports that have exposed pressing issues in Montreal. Todd has worked for the past 18 months as anchor of CTV Montreal’s weekend newscasts.
