MONTREAL – CTV Montreal will celebrate 50 years as Quebec’s top English-language television station on January 20, 2011.
As part of the festivities, the station will air a series of one-minute vignettes called Together each day starting January 1st that offer a look back at the station and its role in the community. A special 50th Anniversary program will air during CTV News At Six on January 20 and during CTV News At Noon on January 21.
“CTV News at 6 p.m. is the highest-rated show in the market, leading all other news, information and entertainment programs,” said Don Bastien, SVP and GM of CTV Montreal, in the announcement. “For CTV Montreal and its staff, that’s really worth celebrating!”
Viewers can also watch many of the station’s classic shows in a new feature called Flashback on the web, and details on a major contest around the milestone will be announced shortly.
The station was known as CFCF-TV when it launched in 1961. Owned by the Canadian Marconi Company, Channel 12 was the first private television station in Montreal. After CTV purchased the station in 2001, CFCF became CTV Montreal and its flagship newscast Pulse was renamed CTV News.
