TORONTO – Canadians must love hospital procedurals. CTV announced today its new series Transplant is set to air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. beginning February 26. The comes on the heels of Global’s new show Nurses, which launched this month.
The CTV original comes from Sphère Média Plus, the producers behind Bell Media’s 19-2, in association with NBCUniversal International Studios. NBCUniversal is also handling global distribution of Transplant.
The series (13×60) features Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed (Hamza Haq, pictured), a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who makes the difficult decision to flee his country with his younger sister Amira. Together they struggle to build a new life in Canada, as Bash strives to rebuild his career in medicine. It is shot in Montreal but set in Toronto.
“A timely and compelling drama with Bash at its core, Transplant examines universal storylines of struggle, compassion, and sacrifice,” said Mike Cosentino, Bell Media’s president, content and programming. “This incredible series is sure to resonate with viewers across the country and is positioned for success at the heart of CTV’s Wednesday night primetime lineup.”
