TORONTO – It took eight months, but CTVglobemedia today announced the completion of its purchase of the radio assets of The Beat Broadcasting Corporation in Vancouver.
The company owns and operates Vancouver radio station CFBT-FM (The Beat 94.5 FM). CHUM Ltd., before it’s purchase by CTVglobemedia, initiated the deal back in February. The CRTC approved the transaction in early October.
"CFBT-FM is an important addition to our radio group," said Paul Ski, president, CHUM Radio, a subsidiary of CTVglobemedia, in the release. "The Beat 94.5 has been a great success with both listeners and advertisers and CHUM Radio plans to build on that success. The talented and dedicated staff of The Beat 94.5 have built a terrific radio station and we are pleased to welcome them to the CHUM Radio team."
Launched in 2002, The Beat 94.5 is a contemporary hit radio station that has grown to become a ratings leader in the Vancouver radio market. “The Beat 94.5 serves Vancouver’s young adult audience, ranking No.1 in both adults and females in the 18-34 age demographic,” says the release.
The station will complement CHUM/CTV’s existing roster of AM and FM Vancouver stations that consist of 103.5 QM-FM (soft favourites), CFUN 1410 (talk), and The TEAM 1040, Sports Radio, home of the Vancouver Canucks.
