TORONTO – Bell Media will air next week’s Super Bowl LI in triple-simulcast on CTV, CTV Two, and TSN, replete with all of the American commercials.
In an effort to attract and hold even more eyeballs, the broadcaster will also stage a contest during its live coverage where Canadian viewers will be prompted to text winning keywords along with their name and city to win prizes such as a trip to next year's Super Bowl LII, a 2017 Nissan Titan, and $300,000 in cash prizes.
CTV's coverage of Super Bowl LI from NRG Stadium in Houston will begin at 11:00 AM ET on Sunday, February 5 with seven consecutive hours of pre-game programming. At 6:00 PM ET, TSN and CTV Two networks will join CTV/FOX coverage for the final 30 minutes of the pre-game show before the matchup between AFC Champion New England Patriots and the NFC champion Atlanta Falcons kicks off at 6:30 PM ET. Coverage will also be live-streamed on CTV.ca and the CTV Go app. RDS will deliver live French-language coverage of Super Bowl LI beginning at 5:30 PM ET.
Immediately following the conclusion of the networks' Super Bowl coverage, CTV will serve up a commercial-free presentation of the first episode of CraveTV's original comedy Letterkenny, airing on network television for the first time ever. Currently streaming its second season as the most-viewed series on CraveTV, the series was recently renewed for a third season.
Due to Letterkenny’s mature subject matter and coarse language, the episode will be delayed in B.C. and Alberta.
"The Super Bowl is TV's biggest event, and we're very excited to optimize our coverage with the first-ever triple-simulcast across CTV, CTV Two, and TSN," said Mike Cosentino, Bell Media's SVP of CTV and specialty, in the news release. "This year, we are rewarding viewers who watch our distinctly Canadian broadcast by adding a real-time, live contesting element on an unprecedented scale. The cherry on top is the network debut of the series premiere of Letterkenny, presented commercial-free and uncut. The Super Bowl into Letterkenny is a can't-miss super-sampler that delivers the CraveTV phenomenon to mass audiences like never before, and yes, viewer discretion is advised!"
