CTV.ca launches MedNews

TORONTO – As an extension of its brand, CTV.ca announced today the launch of CTV MedNews Express – a health information service that delivers e-mail alerts on the latest news and issues in the medical world.

CTV MedNews Express will feature reports on everything from pharmaceutical and product recalls to infectious disease outbreaks and advisories from Health Canada. The newsletter will also deliver highlights and links to the latest studies from the world’s most respected medical journals, says the press release.

Targeted at health professionals, patients, and those with an interest in medical issues, "CTV MedNews Express allows Canadians to stay updated and informed on the latest health developments." The newsletter will be distributed twice a week to subscribers at no charge.

CTV’s award-winning medical specialist Avis Favaro and producer Elizabeth St. Philip developed the concept for CTV MedNews Express.

"It’s becoming more and more difficult for health care workers to keep up with the avalanche of health news in the media," said Favaro in the press release. "Patients want to know more about what they read and hear, but doctors, nurses and other health care professionals usually don’t have access or the time to read all the studies and the data behind the news stories."

CTV MedNews Express will be edited by CTV’s Angela Mulholland and will feature regular contributions from CTV’s health and medical journalists including Favaro, Dr. Marla Shapiro, Monica Matys, Karen Owen and Dr. Rhonda Low.
