TORONTO — Organizers of the Canadian Telecom Summit, which is taking place in November in Toronto, today announced details of a keynote session featuring Ciena’s chief technologist for external research networks, Rodney Wilson (above).
Scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 9:30 a.m. ET, Wilson’s talk is titled ENCQOR to ENGINE: Advancing 5G and Digital Transformation in Canada.
“ENCQOR (Evolution of Networked Services through a Corridor in Quebec and Ontario for Research and Innovation) was a transformational Canada-Quebec-Ontario partnership focused on research and innovation in the field of 5G wireless and wired disruptive technologies, as well as innovation acceleration for small and medium businesses,” explains a keynote description found on the CTS program webpage here.
The ENCQOR program ran from March 2018 to March 2022 and established the first Canadian testbed network equipped with pre-commercial 5G digital infrastructure. Ciena was an anchor partner of ENCQOR.
“ENGINE (Enabling Next Generation Innovation for Network Evolution) is the proposed next phase of ENCQOR,” the keynote synopsis reads. “Anticipated to commence in 2023, this five-year program will aim to accelerate the adoption of digital solutions in Canada via a national testbed of Living Labs that facilitate the development of digital transformation solutions in key sectors of the Canadian economy.”
Digital transformation represents a $330 billion GDP opportunity for Canada, according to the session’s abstract.
During his keynote, Wilson will discuss “how ENGINE puts Canada on the path to address this opportunity through projects that drive the development and adoption of 5G, advanced networking and computing technologies.”
