EDMONTON and CALGARY – Christian broadcaster Crossroads Television System will be up and running in Alberta very soon, the company announced this week.
Burlington, Ont.-based CTS has appointed Drew Martin as regional director of production for Alberta. It received licenses back in June, as Cartt.ca reported.
In Edmonton, Marnie Stretch will be associate producer/host of "Star Report". In Calgary, Veronica Jubinville will be associate producer/host of "Star Report.”
Martin and Richard Landau, senior executive producer – balanced programming, have been meeting with members of the many world religions represented in Alberta to organize the broadcasting of multi-faith programs.
In keeping with its mandate for independent production, CTS will be calling for submissions in October for program ideas from Alberta producers.
To encourage local production, Alberta producers will get the chance to apply for a mentorship fund set up by CTS. The fund is designed to train up-and-coming members of the local television production industry, says the company’s press release.
In addition to family-oriented programs such as “7th Heaven,” “Full House,” and “Happy Days,” CTS will also be airing several locally-produced shows. “Top Story,” hosted by a prominent Edmontonian in Edmonton and Calgarian in Calgary (who haven’t been named yet), is a one-hour daily current affairs program that takes a closer look at world events as they relate to Canadians from a faith perspective.
“Close-Up,” a one-hour weekly documentary series, delves deep into the hearts, minds and souls of some of our most extraordinary Albertans. And this winter, watch for “A Priest, a Monk and a Rabbi…” an unbiased and lighthearted look at the lives of leaders from a variety of faiths. The Edmonton CTS schedule has something for everyone.
“We’re looking forward to broadcasting in this family-friendly province,” says Drew Martin. “CTS programming connects with the lifestyles and values of Albertans.”
An official CTS launch event will held be in the upcoming weeks when a launch date is finalized. As a local over-the-air broadcaster, it will be on basic cable in Edmonton on channel 45 and in Calgary, on 32.
