LAS VEGAS – CTAM used the Consumer Electronics Show today to launch ThisIsCable.com, a web site created by the cable industry to serve as an education resource for consumers.
The site provides information on a wide-range of cable technologies and services, including the latest innovations in digital cable and high-speed Internet access, parental-control technology and moving tips. The site also features an address/zip-code locator that connects customers directly to their cable company web sites.
It does not include a postal code locator nor Canadian cable information.
“It’s so important for consumers to be equipped with the right information when buying a new TV or computer. And, perhaps as important as the electronics they buy, is information on the latest services available to accompany and enhance their new purchase,” said CTAM president and CEO Char Beales. “That’s where ThisIsCable.com comes in. This site provides customers with information on the latest CE technologies like HDTVs, along with the cable services available to complete the experience.”
According to CTAM research a large number of viewers have purchased a new HDTV in the last four years – 41% of premium cable subscribers, 37% digital cable and 35% of DBS subscribers. However, 46% of HDTV owners aren’t getting the full benefit of these expensive TV sets, because they aren’t connecting to an HDTV content service, such as cable.
Those consumers are missing the hundreds of hours of HD programming – including local HD channels – that cable provides, and they would be “in-the-know” if they visited ThisIsCable.com.
“Whether consumers are looking for basic cable information or investigating the future of cable, ThisIsCable.com is a valuable resource for beginning and advanced technology users alike,” said Beales.
