CTAM Canada is going east

HALIFAX – Anyone looking for breakfast on October 2nd – with a dash of knowledge – should swing by the Marriott Halifax Harbourfront hotel at 8:30 a.m. AT.

Held in between the EastLink CSR Training Day and the company’s annual Fall Classic Golf Tournament, the topic for the 90-minute panel session is On Demand, Who Speaks For The Consumer?

So far, the panel consists of Dean MacDonald, president and CEO, Persona Communications; Dan McKeen, Co-CEO, EastLink; and Lisa Lyons, VP & GM of MaxTrax/content distribution, Corus Entertainment. Another programmer will be added to the mix but that person has not yet been finalized. The session’s moderator will be Harris Boyd.

Consumers are voting with their wallets in terms of how they want their television programming delivered. They are purchasing digital cable to gain packaging flexibility, PVRs to allow them to create their own schedules, time-shifted services to give them additional viewing windows, whatever VOD product is available and on-line services to bypass the traditional broadcasting system.

Some even resort to piracy in the belief that they will get programs they want to watch, when they want to watch them. Despite this clear sign from consumers, programmers cling to distinct channels and even channel placement, while distributors continue to offer large inflexible packages of services.

Come listen to four industry leaders give their opinions on how the industry should respond – and on who is looking out for the viewer.
