CSR hires from suds community

TORONTO – Canadian Satellite Radio today appointed former Coors Canada marketer Colin Bettam as senior vice-president of marketing and sales.

In this role, Bettam will be responsible for overseeing all sales and marketing functions of CSR, including retail and automotive distribution channels. He will also lead marketing, promotion and advertising strategy for CSR’s launch and ongoing operations, says the company.

“We are thrilled to have Colin join our launch team for the introduction of satellite radio in Canada” said Stephen Tapp, president and COO of CSR, in a release. “He’s got all the right stuff and a proven, winning track record.”

Bettam has more than 15 years of experience in marketing. Most recently, he spent close to a decade with Coors Canada in various marketing roles, including vice-president of marketing. Bettam was one of the people behind the growth of Coors Light in Canada, taking the brand from a low-share light beer to one of the country’s fastest growing mainstream beer brands.

Bettam “will bring his expertise in advertising, retail promotions, on-premise promotions, trade investment, sponsorships, strategic alliances, consumer research, agency management and public relations to lead XM to market dominance in Canada,” says the release

With the CRTC and Federal Cabinet decision behind them, CSR plans to launch satellite radio service across Canada before the 2005 Christmas season.

CSR is owned and operated by Canadian John I. Bitove, and received a licence from the CRTC in June 2005 to offer the XM Satellite Radio subscription radio service in French and English to all Canadians via satellite.
