CRTC’s Anani named CEO Of Ottawa’s ICTC


OTTAWA – Namir Anani, the CRTC’s executive director, policy, development and research, is leaving the Commission, it was announced today.

He has accepted the position of CEO of the Information and Communications Technology Council in Ottawa. A not-for-profit sector council, the ICTC is geared towards the creation of a prepared, diverse and highly educated Canadian ICT industry and workforce. “ICTC is a catalyst for change, pushing for innovations that will provide standards, labour market intelligence, career pathways and immigration for the Canadian ICT industry, educators and governments,” reads its web site. “We forge partnerships that will help develop the quantity and quality of ICT professionals needed to maintain and improve Canada’s position as a leader in the global marketplace.”

“Clearly this position will allow Namir to expand the extensive experience and knowledge he has gained in his government positions in the area of the digital economy,” said CRTC chair Konrad von Finckenstein in a memo to staff announcing Anani’s departure.

“Namir has been instrumental in the CRTC’s work responding to the increasingly converged and multi-platformed communication industry. Thanks to Namir and the work of his team, the CRTC is as well positioned as possible under existing legislation to meet the future challenge of convergence,” added von Finckenstein.

Anani (seen here in a CRTC video on internet traffic management practices) will be starting his new position on December 5th and prior to that date an acting appointment for the position of Executive Director, Policy Development and Research position will be announced.
