Shortliffe to become ED, broadcasting
GATINEAU – CRTC chair Ian Scott announced today it has filled a newly created position with Scott Hutton, who will leave his long-time post as executive director, broadcasting, to become the Commission’s new chief of consumer, research and communications.
Hutton “brings to the role 27 years of experience at the CRTC and has extensive experience in both the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors. He is a seasoned expert of the communications industry and the regulatory environment,” reads the chair’s memo.
“Scott will lead the CRTC’s work as we engage in a conversation with Canadians, key stakeholders and industry leaders, and partner with other government departments in moving along the road of legislative and regulatory reform. It is an exciting time to be at the CRTC as we strive to meet the needs of Canadians and the digital era.”
Scott Shortliffe, who has been the Commission’s chief consumer officer since coming over in April 2017 after 22 years with Heritage Canada, will become the new ED broadcasting. “Scott’s extensive experience providing advice and guidance on key communications issues at both the CRTC and Heritage Canada and his leadership on key files will serve the Commission well,” reads Scott’s memo (one story, three Scotts!).
The changes will officially happen May 2.
“Over the next few weeks, we will make any other necessary adjustments to complete the organizational change in support of this new role,” adds the memo “These changes will be minimal and will be announced as soon as possible.”
