OTTAWA-GATINEAU – The CRTC is asking Canadians to weigh in and help shape its proposed code of conduct for television service providers.

The Commission said Tuesday that its online discussion forum is open now through May 25, 2015, to allow Canadians to comment on the draft TV code tabled in March compiled from comments received during last year’s TV Policy Review, known as Let's Talk TV.

As it stands, the code proposes that TV service providers would be required to provide easy-to-understand agreements to their customers, notify them of changes to their services, and clarify the terms surrounding issues such as the addition or cancellation of channels, early service cancellation fees, and installation appointments.  The CRTC specifically requested comments sections pertaining to:

Offers and promotions

Clarity of written agreements

Changing programming options

Service calls

In addition to the online discussion forum, Canadians may also submit comments by filling out the online form; by writing to the Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario  K1A 0N2; or by sending a fax to 819-994-0218.

"Canadians sent us a strong message that they were encountering problems with their television service providers”, said CRTC chairman Jean-Pierre Blais, in a statement.  “The CRTC is acting on these comments and has prepared a draft version of a TV Code that reflects what Canadians told us. I invite them to take an active part in the discussions. Now is the time to shape your TV Code."
