
OTTAWA and GATINEAU – The CRTC today announced 10 projects will receive up to $20.5 million in funding from its Broadband Fund.
“The projects will support the rollout of fourth-generation (also known as LTE or LTE-A) mobile wireless access along 425 kilometres of roads and highways in Manitoba, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador,” a press release explains. “They will also support improved Internet and mobile wireless access that will benefit 2,250 households in 35 communities, including five Indigenous communities and one official language minority community, in the three provinces.”
The Broadband Fund has now committed up to $226.5 million to improve service in 205 communities (approximately 32,655 households), the release says.
The funding announced today has been awarded to Bell Canada, Bell Mobility, Sichuun Inc., with Naskapi Imuun Inc. and Redline Communications Inc., Sogetel Mobilité inc., and Telus Communications.
Bell Canada has been awarded approximately $863,000 for a project serving 600 households in Cranberry Portage and Snow Lake in Manitoba.
Bell Mobility has been awarded approximately $6.8 million for three projects providing service along 20 km of roads in Camperville, Manitoba and 90 km of roads in Quebec.
Sichuun Inc., with Naskapi Imuun Inc. and Redline Communications has been awarded approximately $297,000 for a project serving 640 households in Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador. The communities to be served through this project are Kawawachikamach, Lac John, Matimekosh 3 (Matimekush) and Schefferville.
Sogetel Mobilité has been awarded approximately $364,000 for a project providing service for 11 km of roads in Lac-Frontière and Sainte-Lucie-de-Beauregard in Quebec.
Telus has been awarded approximately $12.1 million for four projects providing service along 305 km of roads (1,010 households in 26 communities) in Quebec.
The communities include: Port-Menier, Rivière-au-Tonnerre, Rivière-Saint-Jean, Barrage Manic-2, Lac-Frontière, Saint-Adalbert, Saint-Marcel, Saint-Philémon, Sainte-Félicité, Sainte-Lucie-de-Beauregard, Mann Settlement, Matapédia, Sainte-Florence, Cap-Seize, Grande-Cascapédia, Rivière-Matane, Ruisseau-Gagnon, Saint-Adelme, Saint-Alexandre-des-Lacs, Saint-Jules, Saint-Léandre, Saint-René-de-Matane, Saint-Tharcisius, Saint-Vianney, Saint-Luc-de-Matane and Sainte-Paule.
