OTTAWA – Sixty-nine campus and community radio stations will receive close to $3 million from the latest round of funding of the Community Radio Fund of Canada’s (CRFC) Radiometres program.

The CRFC said that the 61 projects that it is helping to fund “are necessary to the sustainability of community radio stations”.  They include the creation of a series of special shows on youth; shows that will explore the evolution of Cape Breton music; recorded broadcasts of live community theatre stage productions; music shows taking place in a train car; and an annual festival featuring artists from Alberta.  Click here for the complete list of recipients.

“Nothing makes me happier than to see stations that are at the heart of our communities take advantage of Radiometres to undertake initiatives that will not only improve their capacities, but that will also benefit the communities they serve,” said CRFC president Roger Ouellette, in Thursday’s news release.

First launched in July 2012, the Radiometres program has awarded more than $9 million for the realisation of 288 projects, which brings the total of funds awarded by all of the CRFC’s programs to $10.3 million.

The funding for Radiometres is provided by Canada’s private radio broadcasters through a portion of their Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions, a funding mechanism established by the CRTC.
