OTTAWA – The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) is awarding more than $200,000 to 21 campus and community radio stations through its Youth on Air! program.
Now in its second year, Youth on the Air! provides training grants to campus and community radio stations for training, education and mentorship opportunities for youths. Funding is provided by Canada’s private radio broadcasters through their Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions.
This summer, interns will be hired at radio stations from Victoria, BC across the country to Glace Bay, NS, and be offered the opportunity to go in the field, meet members of their community, and attend special events, shows or festivals. They will also produce documentaries, local newscasts or specialized shows all while gaining hands-on broadcasting skills. The complete list of the 2016 recipients is available here.
"After the program's success last year, we really wanted to bring back Youth on Air!”, said CRFC president Roger Ouellette, in the news release. “It's incredible to see everything that the stations can accomplish with the extra resource, especially during the summer! It also allows the young interns to gain valuable experience. It's a win-win situation."
