Courville to lead new NFB marketing and communications branch

MONTREAL – The National Film Board of Canada, today announced the hiring of Nathalie Courville to helm its new marketing and communications arm.

Courville (right) has close to 20 years experience in the cultural and entertainment sector, most notably with the communications department of Équipe Spectra, organizer of prestigious events such as the Festival international de jazz de Montréal, FrancoFolies de Montréal and the Montreal High Lights Festival.

"The arrival of Nathalie Courville is a crucial step in positioning the NFB. With her recognized expertise in managing cultural marketing and communications, I am sure she will be able to strengthen the NFB brand, which is one of the key objectives of our Strategic Plan and the primary mandate entrusted to her," said Jacques Bensimon, Government Film Commissioner and Chair of the NFB.

She will first focus on management of NFB communications, which includes the Outreach Development, Collections Management, Festivals and Communications Services sections. In consultation with the different people involved, she will have three months to assess the NFB’s marketing needs and make the necessary recommendations, says the NFB release.

“The NFB’s production, distribution and conservation activities have grown significantly over the past several years. The NFB is increasingly present in theatres, on television, on DVD, on the web and in festivals throughout Canada and internationally, with creative documentaries and animated films that are open to the world and the major issues of the day,” says the release.

"I am very enthusiastic about joining the NFB, which undoubtedly plays a unifying role in the development and dissemination of Canadian culture. It’s an honour to be able to help enhance its reputation by establishing an integrated marketing and communications structure to rally NFB employees around a common goal of positioning and outreach," said Courville.
