Corus’s Showcase and Q107 launch MacGruber contest

TORONTO — Corus Entertainment announced today a nationwide contest in support of Showcase’s new comedy action series MacGruber, which is based on the Saturday Night Live parody sketch featuring actor Will Forte (above, left).

Forte is reprising his MacGruber role in this new Peacock Original comedy series, which will premiere Sunday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. ET on Showcase and will be available to stream live and on demand on StackTV and the Global TV App.

“After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Will Forte) is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past — Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth (Billy Zane). With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must reassemble his old team, Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) and Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) in order to defeat the forces of evil,” reads a synopsis of the show in an emailed press release.

In partnership with Corus’s Toronto radio station Q107, Showcase is offering fans a chance to win the cash equivalent of a 1990s Miata (MacGruber’s ride), which works out to $6,969.69, according to the contest details available on Showcase’s website here.

Contest entries are being accepted until Jan. 31.

“Tapping into the strength of Corus’ owned and operated brands, this powerful partnership with Q107 will leverage the station’s massive audience to amplify the contest via promos and live mentions on-air, on social media, as well as online through a dedicated contest page on the station’s website,” says the release.
